One of the Great Hotel's of the Pacific, Madang Resort Hotel, is
set alongside the beautiful entrance of Madang Harbour, amongst five acres of exotically landscaped gardens of
native and hybrid orchids, palms and native flora.
The History
The Madang Resort Hotel has a rich and colourful history.
It is the only hotel in PNG that dates back to early German Colonisation of Papua New Guinea, when Madang was known
as Frederick Wilhelmshafen. It's name was changed to Madang by the Germans after an island near Finschafen, that
resembled Madang.
The area experienced many influences, due to such things as the take over by Australian's after World War I. Extensive
fighting took place by the Japanese, Australians and Americans during World War II and the subsequent period between
1945-1975 during which time the Australian Government administered the “Territory” on behalf of the United Nations.
The Location
Few hotels are centred so close to the thriving centre
of the township, yet hidden and surrounded by interesting waterways, lagoons, parks and landscaped gardens with
exotic birds and animals indigenous to PNG.
The Madang Resort offers the best of both worlds, the convenience of being close to the action, yet inside, a thousand
miles away from the hustle and bustle!
